It’s Levenham’s wedding of the year but unlucky-in-love Harry Argyle has more on his mind than being groomsman.
After yet again nearly colliding with an escaped horse while driving home to the family farm, Harry Argyle comes face-to-face with its pretty owner, and doesn’t hold back his disapproval.
Confronted by a bad-tempered giant on a dark country road, beautician and new arrival in town Summer Taylor doesn’t know who to be more afraid for: herself or her darling horse Binky. It’s not her fault Binky keeps escaping. The alcoholic owner of the paddock she rents won’t fix the fence and Binky can be sneaky when it comes to filling his stomach. But no matter how big and muscled the bully, she refuses to be intimidated.
When Harry’s wedding party book a session at the day spa where Summer works, both she and Harry are horrified to be paired together. Grudgingly, they agree to make the most of it – only for the session to spiral into disaster. Realising he’s made a dill of himself in front of sweet Summer yet again, Harry vows to set things right.
Summer isn’t about to easily forgive the man who called her horse stupid, no matter how brave and kind, but with everyone on Harry’s side, even fate, resistance is hard. Can these two find love or will Summer’s wayward horse put his hoof in it again?
A sweet rural romance novella from Cathryn Hein, best-selling author of The Falls, Rocking Horse Hill, Heartland, Heart of the Valley, and Promises.

Excerpt – Summer And The Groomsman by Cathryn Hein
Harry is waiting nervously at Lush Spa and Beauty for the wedding party’s bonding session to begin…
The women entered, chattering non-stop about dresses and the champagne they’d indulged in. All right for some. What Harry wouldn’t do for a fortifying beer or two. Em kissed Josh fondly, while Harry received a smile and nod, but he noticed a distinct lack of warmth in the greeting Digby returned to his sister. Digby stepped toward Jas, effectively giving Em the shoulder. For a fleeting moment Em’s mouth curved downward then returned to normal as Josh whispered something in her ear.
Harry frowned at Digby. Em’s brother might be best man and Harry only groomsman, but that didn’t mean Harry was going to let anything spoil this wedding. And it wouldn’t hurt Dig to set aside his blame for a few days. Em had nothing to do with Felicity’s death other than the accident occurring on her property. The coroner had even found that her attempts to save Felicity had been as heroic as Josh’s.
Jas seemed to have it under control though. The intense way she was talking to Dig, her body close, eye contact fierce and voice low, suggested a telling-off. It also implied intimacy. Interesting. He glanced at Teagan who was watching Dig and Jas also, her expression revealing she’d noticed the same. She met his gaze and for a moment they shared their private knowledge, before Em clapped her hands and drew their attention elsewhere.
“Dig and I are,” said Josh. “Harry’s not. The big girl. He’s terrified he’s going to get waxed and lose all his manliness like Samson.”
Harry rolled his eyes. Big girl, his arse. He was taller and more built than all of them put together. “At least I’ve got the testosterone to grow more.”
“Stop fretting.” A poke from Jas landed in his ribs. “They’ll only wax you if you ask.”
“I wasn’t fretting.”
“Sure, you weren’t.”
Fortunately, he was saved from more ribbing by the arrival of a short, slender woman with over-arched eyebrows, flawless skin and her blonde hair tied back in a bun. She looked like a doll. A doll with the greenest eyes he’d ever seen.
Harry couldn’t stop staring. “Jesus,” he muttered.
A nudge had him looking down. It was Teagan. “It’s all fake. Pancake makeup and coloured contact lenses.”
“Right,” he said, pursing his lips. He knew that.
“Everyone here?” asked Dollybird.
Em nodded. “And looking forward to it.”
“Great. Everything’s prepared.” She smiled at them in turn. “Now, girls first.” From the corridor behind emerged three equally slim women wearing outfits that seemed more appropriate for a pharmacy or science lab than a beauty salon. “Em, you’re with Megan. Jas, if you’ll go with Sandy? And Teagan, we’ve paired you with Katie.”
Em planted a kiss on Josh’s mouth before waving at Harry and Dig, and with a call of “Enjoy!” trailed her beautician down the corridor. Jas followed suit, throwing Dig a wink as she went.
Teagan touched Harry lightly on the arm. “Just relax. You’ll be fine.” Then she leaned close. “But if they offer you an enema, say no.” And with a giggle she trotted off, leaving Harry feeling faint from the blood that had just drained from his face to pool in his boots. Enema? Enema?

Harry was hilarious! Arrogant, naive, sweet, loveable and just outright adorable 🙂 Summer was heartfelt, sincere and a strong character who made for a perfect combination with Harry 😀
I enjoyed reading the characters and the story. I loved each of the characters honesty and directness throughout the read that more often than not was hilarious and entertaining. Binky was a troublesome but beautiful horse and poor Harry seemed to be a magnet to his antics that often were more than a challenge for him 😉 and hilarious for us readers lol It was awesome revisiting past characters who us readers are familiar with in Cathryn’s previous novels Rocking Horse Hill and The Falls.
The story also touches on some serious topics that were outlined and reconciled brilliantly but Harry, Summer and various secondary characters add a lot of merriment to the read so it didn’t get bogged down in massive drama. A story that you can just immerse in and relish from start to finish with many animated, some notable and familiar characters who charmed this reader from start to finish.
My Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

About Cathryn Hein
Cathryn Hein is a best-selling rural romance and romantic adventure author. A South Australian country girl by birth, she loves nothing more than a rugged rural hero who’s as good with his heart as he is with his hands, which is probably why she writes them! Her romances are warm and emotional, and feature themes that don’t flinch from the tougher side of life but are often happily tempered by the antics of naughty animals. Her aim is to make you smile, sigh, and perhaps sniffle a little, but most of all feel wonderful.
Cathryn currently lives at the base of the Blue Mountains in New South Wales with her partner of many years, Jim. When she’s not writing, she plays golf (ineptly), cooks (well), and in football season barracks (rowdily) for her beloved Sydney Swans AFL team.
