Fresh off a break-up with her boyfriend, Kadie’s glad to be home from college for Thanksgiving. All she needs is a rebound guy, a box of chocolates, and some girl time with her best friend, Salome. Problem is, Salome isn’t returning her calls, and her family won’t say where she is. Feeling sorry for herself, Kadie ends up at Club Blade, a place filled with pumping music, dangerous guys, and promises of a good time. However, when midnight strikes, Kadie’s fun turns into a nightmare as she’s ripped from the human world into Faerie by a vengeful Winter Prince named Etienne. For the first time in her life, she realizes the monsters Salome always spoke of are real, and they’ll stop at nothing to destroy her friend.
Salome thought the winter curse was behind her. But winter has left its mark. Not just on her, but on the whole summer court. The Kingdom of Summer is falling apart, and Nevin is hanging onto his throne by a thread. With war on his doorstep, he has no choice but to send Gareth into enemy territory, which means Salome will be left alone–vulnerable in a world she doesn’t understand. A place where beauty is deadly and humans are pawns in the macabre games the Fae play. Both Kadie and Salome will have to call on all their strength to survive in a world where humans aren’t meant to be. With death and enemies all around them, it’ll be a miracle if they can survive.

Summer Marked by Rebekah L. Purdy is so amazingly written. Deception and glamour all throughout and scenes that will leave you breathless. Who to trust and so many sides in the fight against the Winter Queen, the evil Giselle. This story had so many spectrums. It’s shockingly gory one minute and incredibly sweet the next and fireworks aplenty throughout. Hilarious horses, glowing fairies, hell hounds and demons, this story is packed with many surprises.
Salome and Gareth snared this readers attention in book one of the series The Winter People, and the continuing story have many of the characters re-appearing in this installment of the series and not once did the story disappoint. The story shocked yes, was warm and fuzzy yes, unusual yes and mesmarising – absolutely 😀 The Winter People series by Rebekah L Purdy is a read you will want to go back to time and again.
Gareth is still protecting Salome right along with the horse Adana who delighted this reader with his many exploits and actions between himself, Gareth and Salome.
Poor Kadie is also dragged into the Faerie world. A world she thought Salome had only made up and is shocked to discover that it’s real from one demon to the next.
I initially adored Kadie’s strength and purpose – protecting her best friend Salome at all costs, even above her own safety. But her story has more than a few twists and turns throughout that had this reader, at many times, perplexed.
I still question Nevin’s reasonings and wonder what his agenda really is. Gwenn runs both hot and cold. Darach was exceptional with Salome and the tie in from all sides is breathtakingly portrayed.
Reading this story will have you on the edge of your seat. This reader never quite knew if a character was being genuine given the complete twists and trickery throughout the story. Then again, that just made this reader continue to turn the pages in anticipation of what would be next in the story 😀
Lots of duplicity, surprises and twists in the story but this reader was just unable to put the book down. Right along with The Winter People, Summer Marked was just stunning reading.
The ending of this book left me waiting in anticipation as to what the next book in The Winter People series will hold and what surprises readers are in for.
