The Country Girl by Cathryn Hein – Excerpt

Patrick stared at her. An invitation? To a party? After what he’d said, the fool he’d made of himself?
‘I’ll be filming,’ Tash continued, her words rushing out in a breathy stream, ‘so you’ll have to sign a release form but it’s nothing to worry about. Just a legal thing to say that you’ve given permission for me to use your image. You don’t have to sign but it helps. Otherwise I’ll have to edit you out and that’s not always easy. Editing is really time consuming, even with good software …’ She trailed off, cheeks flushing rose pink, avoiding his gaze.
Maddy used to comment that Tash didn’t believe in her own prettiness. Patrick hadn’t thought much of it—by the time he was having those kinds of conversations with Maddy he was too caught up in their love, with keeping the amazing, frightening, encompassing feel of it alive forever. But Tash was pretty, even with helmet hair and dust sticking to her skin.
‘Okay.’
‘Okay?’
‘Yeah. I’ll be there. Thanks for asking me.’
‘Right. Good. That’s sorted then.’ She pointed at the flat. ‘I’d better get on. Things to organise.’
She bustled towards the sliding door. Patrick’s gaze slid over her body, lingering on its hourglass sweep and the way her breeches cupped the mounds of her bum. His fingers twitched with the urge to touch and he clenched his fists against the wrongness of it.

My Thoughts

Child Of Africa by T.M. Clark contained a wealth of complex characters who faced more than a few hurdles as depicted in the story. There were chilling scenes and evil characters within the read who really made my skin crawl. Yet, there were also many happy moments portrayed, with the likeable characters of Bongani, Joss, and Peta. I liked how the author weaved the story into one big arc in an unmissable finale. Another great read from author T. M. Clark.

My Thoughts

The story started with a hive of activity, in a read that was incredible. Alexis and Ethan’s characters were wholesome from the start and grabbed this reader’s attention with their confrontations and interactions within the story. There were some surprise twists that kept me turning the pages, in what was an all-round, enjoyable read that I could read again in years to come.

New Release! Little Secrets by Anna Snoekstra

What happens when ambition trumps the truth?

A town reeling in the wake of tragedy…

An arsonist is on the loose in Colmstock, Australia, most recently burning down the town’s courthouse and killing a young boy who was trapped inside.

An aspiring journalist desperate for a story…

The clock is ticking for Rose Blakey. With nothing but rejections from newspapers piling up, her job pulling beers for cops at the local tavern isn’t enough to even cover rent. Rose needs a story—a big one.

A bizarre mystery…

In the weeks after the courthouse fire, porcelain replicas of Colmstock’s daughters begin turning up on doorsteps, terrifying parents and testing the limits of the town’s already fractured police force.

Rose may have finally found her story. But as her articles gain traction and the boundaries of her investigation blur, Colmstock is seized by a seething paranoia. Soon, no one is safe from suspicion. And when Rose’s attention turns to the mysterious stranger living in the rooms behind the tavern, neighbour turns on neighbour and the darkest side of self-preservation is revealed.

‘A smart and compulsive thriller that perfectly evokes the claustrophobia of small-town Australian life. I couldn’t put it down!’ Bestselling Australian author of The Rosie Project, Graeme Simsion

Thoughts On The Book

The characters that were last read of in A Chance Of Stormy Weather, are the central focus in Author Tricia Stringer's newest novel Come Rain Or Shine. Dan, Paula and Rowena face more dramas, this time around, Paula also experiences challenges in her pregnancy, while also facing some of the stresses within her life. A somewhat similar story to A Chance Of Stormy Weather where the secrets, communication breakdowns, the ex-girlfriend and the grouchy Aunt, although not as grouchy ( 🙂 ), are at the forefront.
